Machining PMMA Plastic
PMMA Plastic is a technical plastic and is also known as an engineering plastic. These plastics are often used in appliance construction, technical applications, precision components or in the advertising industry. PMMA is short for Polymethyl Methacrylate, also known as Acrylic Acrylate. P
olymethyl Methacrylate is also more familiarly known in the trade as Plexiglas, acrylic and Perspex. It is a clear and pure plastic that transmits more light even than glass, and is also suitable for foodstuffs. PMMA plastic is also available in various colours and light transmissions (opal), as well as in ESD safe ‘Eslon’ material.
PMMA has excellent machinability and guarantees high optical quality. PMMA is often used for construction applications including for sight glasses and liquid gauges as well as for illuminated signs, display cases and displays. These applications are evidence that acrylic has become a valuable and even indispensable material in the industrial sector too.
